龍谷大学慧光館は、キャンパス拡張に伴い公道を隔てた南側キャンパスでの講義を展開するための大小さまざまな講義室、研究室、社会連携機能で構成される施設である。
下階に配置した500人講義室の上に直行する形で300人講義室を２つ重ねコンクリートの塊とし、それを取り巻くようにガラス張りの小規模講義室、研究室が配置されている。また相対するボリュームの間には２階デッキより続く外部ステージを計画した。このステージでの活動が成就館から連続する2階レベルデッキと緑化壁の上部に浮かび、大学の新たなファザードを作り出している。
The Ryukoku University Ekokan was established as part of the campus expansion, accommodating lectures on the newly developed south campus across the public road. The facility houses a variety of lecture halls in different sizes, research laboratories, and functions for community collaboration.
A 500-seat lecture hall is positioned on the lower level, above which two 300-seat lecture halls are stacked perpendicularly, forming a solid concrete volume. Surrounding this core mass, smaller glass-enclosed lecture rooms and research spaces are arranged.
Between the opposing volumes, an external stage extends from the second-floor deck. Activities on this stage appear to float above the greenery wall and the continuous second-level deck that stretches from Jojukan, together shaping a new façade for the university.
