龍谷大学聞思館は先行して耐震改修+リニューアルを行った既存体育館の増築施設である。
南キャンパスのファサードを構成する緑化壁、２階デッキテラスを基壇とし、２階に地域住民も利用できるレストラン、上階に講義室、研究室を配置した。研究室を群として分節し、外壁材をカラマツの天然木材を使用した木の箱として緑化壁の上に浮かべ、それらが緑化テラスや階段によって多様につながる構成とした。
１階には元々の機能であった3キャンパスを結ぶスクールバスのロータリーとその待合室、体育館事務室を配置し、階高を体育館2階のアリーナと合わせることで、聞思館が既存体育館のメインエントランスとして機能する。
The Ryukoku University Monshikan is an extension to the existing gymnasium, which had previously undergone seismic retrofitting and renovation.
Forming part of the south campus façade, the building is set on a base consisting of a green wall and a second-floor terrace deck. On the second floor, a restaurant open to both students and local residents is provided, while lecture rooms and research laboratories are arranged on the upper floors. The research labs are divided into clusters, each expressed as a wooden box clad in natural larch, appearing to float above the green wall. These volumes are interconnected through planted terraces and stairways, creating a variety of spatial relationships.
On the ground floor, the original functions of the gymnasium are maintained: the rotary for shuttle buses linking the three campuses, a waiting lounge, and the gymnasium’s administrative office. By aligning the floor height with the second-floor arena of the existing gymnasium, Monshikan also functions as the new main entrance to the facility.
