龍谷大学朋友館はメインキャンパスから300ｍほど西側に離れた場所に位置し、幹線道路である竹田街道と第一軍同が交差する竹田久保町交差点に面して建つ部活やサークル活動のための課外活動拠点である。
外周部を南キャンパスから続く緑化壁により既存棟ごと囲い、ロッジアを計画することで大学領域を閉じるのではなく、大学と街の中間領域、つなぎ、開く役割を持たせている。また、ロッジア上部は建物上部まで続くランニングコースを計画し、ファイバーグレーチングで囲った屋外トレーニング場にたどり着く、この外部から可視化された活動が大学の変容と現在地を世間に表明する機会になることを期待している。
The Ryukoku University Hoyukan is located about 300 meters west of the main campus, facing the Takedakubocho intersection where the major arterial road, Takeda Kaido, crosses Daiichigundo. It serves as a hub for extracurricular activities, including student clubs and circles.
The entire perimeter, including the existing building, is wrapped with a green wall extended from the south campus. By introducing a loggia, the design avoids enclosing the university from the city; instead, it creates an intermediate zone that connects and opens the campus to the surrounding urban fabric.
Above the loggia, a running track continues upward to the roof, leading to an outdoor training area enclosed with fiber grating. These activities, visible from the outside, are expected to express to the public both the transformation of the university and its present stance.
