資料館、府立大学文学部、府立大学付属図書館、京都学センターの大きく４部門からなる複合建築である。収容する複数の機能を、東西に長いブロックに分けて平行に配置し、その間を動線が縦横に貫いており、条坊制に基づいた京都の歴史的町並みとの連続性を保ったプランとしている。象徴的な大屋根は細かく分節されていて場所ごとに太陽光発電、ライトシェルフ、自然採光、自然換気など、環境配慮の技術が組み込まれている。伝統性と先端的な環境技術をハイブリッドした屋根であり、それ自体が京都を体現する建物になっている。
This project is a new complex of ‘Kyoto prefectual library and archives’, ‘Kyoto prefectual University’ and ‘Kyoto Learning center’. We have referred to Kyoto’s traditional urban structure in order to fuse these three functions together. Furthermore, we came up with designing a new big roof which is divided into segments to match different scales of surrounding environments. This new roof has a potential to realize a form of new public space in Kyoto
